Key Points
After a surprise surge above $50,000, the Bitcoin price rallied to $53,000 before retracting.
This unexpected move has led to speculation about a potential correction.
Crypto analyst and market expert Michaël van de Poppe predicts this correction could be as steep as 40%.
Understanding the Role of Market Sentiment
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), van de Poppe discussed various factors that can influence Bitcoin’s price.
He emphasized that market sentiment is often misleading and should be considered in investment strategies.
To illustrate this, van de Poppe highlighted instances where market sentiment was incorrect.
Firstly, the approval of Spot Bitcoin ETFs led to predictions of a new Bitcoin high.
However, while Bitcoin’s price did rally, it didn’t reach a new peak.
He explained that market sentiment can overstate actual price action due to emotional reactions.
Van de Poppe also mentioned the price drop from $49,000 to $39,000 resulting from Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) outflows.
Despite expectations of continued outflows, they eventually slowed down, allowing Bitcoin’s price to rally.
Finally, he noted the current market trend with high interest.
Investors expect this interest to continue, but van de Poppe warns that emotions often exceed reality, leading to financial losses.
Anticipating a 40% Correction?
Following Bitcoin’s recent rally, van de Poppe advises investors to have a strategy for trading or investing.
He suggests a market correction could occur due to changes in macro-economic events.
He cites the recent increase in the CPI and a decrease in inflows as investors start to withdraw from the market.
Van de Poppe clarifies that inflows are not solely from Spot Bitcoin ETFs.
There are other sources of inflows where investors could start selling their coins.
He warns, “Those corrections, with the current sentiment, are going to be swift.
I don’t know exactly from where these will happen, but given the data it’s reasonable to suspect that the markets are peaking between $53-58K and are getting a 20-40% correction from there.”
