Key Points
SkyBridge Capital’s founder, Anthony Scaramucci, has speculated a significant increase in the value of Bitcoin following its halving. He shared his insights during a CNBC TV interview.
Scaramucci pointed out a recurring pattern over the past 14 years. He noticed that Bitcoin’s value usually multiplies by four after each halving event.
The SkyBridge founder speculated, “I’m not sure where it’ll be on or about April 20th when the halving actually takes place, but let’s say it’s at $50,000; that would imply over 18 months from the halving a $200,000 Bitcoin price.” He attributes this potential surge to the increasing demand and limited supply of Bitcoin, particularly with new spot ETFs entering the market.
Bitcoin’s Potential
Scaramucci also discussed the current situation of Bitcoin skeptics who have incurred losses. He believes their predicament is contributing to the significant appreciation in Bitcoin’s price. At the time of the interview, Bitcoin was trading at over $59,000, showing an approximately 40% increase over the previous month.
He criticized JPMorgan Chase’s CEO, Jamie Dimon, for his negative stance on Bitcoin. Scaramucci urged Dimon to conduct more research on the cryptocurrency. He believes that understanding Bitcoin’s fundamentals can lead to rewards, even if initial perceptions seem incorrect.
Scaramucci compared Bitcoin to gold, a $6 trillion asset. He suggested that Bitcoin, given its ease of transfer and other similar properties, should aim to reach at least half of gold’s market value. This implies an eightfold increase by 2030.
Scaramucci also expressed his concerns about the central banking system’s management of currency, especially since the detachment from the gold standard in 1971. He stated that this has led to a 98% loss in the US dollar’s purchasing power over 52 years.
He sees Bitcoin as a corrective measure to this perceived mismanagement. He believes that Bitcoin offers a more stable and secure asset in the long run. He stated, “This decentralized fully transparent currency is definitely going to rise in value…maybe it won’t be the currency standard for the world, but it certainly could replace gold or be alongside gold as a store of value.”
Analysts are hopeful that Bitcoin could surpass the market capitalization of gold, reflecting its dominance over silver. Since their introduction, Bitcoin ETFs have attracted billions of dollars. In contrast, gold ETFs have seen a significant withdrawal of funds.
According to ETF.com, gold ETFs have experienced about $3.6 billion in outflows, reducing their assets under management (AUM) to $92.5 billion. On the other hand, Bitcoin ETFs have seen impressive inflows, totaling $5 billion, and bringing their AUM to $37.6 billion.
