The altcoin market has been performing well over the past five months, however, concerns about the Bitcoin halving have caused a slowdown. The next significant rise could take some time to materialize, but it is expected to leave noticeable indicators.
The value of the altcoin market has significantly decreased over the past month due to apprehensions about a Bitcoin halving. Ali Martinez, a prominent crypto analyst, has noted that altcoin seasons usually begin shortly after a Bitcoin halving.
Understanding Altcoin Seasons
An altcoin season is a period when the market capitalization of altcoins increases rapidly. This growth, driven by capital rotation in the crypto space, typically does not last for more than a few months. However, it provides investors with an excellent opportunity to make profits.
In early 2024, the altcoin season index reached above 75. The halving event caused the index to fluctuate to the 25 value, reflecting a Bitcoin season. However, in reality, altcoins lost much more value than Bitcoin in the past month. This was primarily due to the fear of selling pressure behind Bitcoin.
Tether Dominance and Altcoin Seasons
A technical analysis of the Tether dominance chart indicated that its downtrend was nearing an end. A downward trend in USDT dominance is a positive sign as it indicates investors are taking risks and exchanging stablecoin for crypto assets. Conversely, an upward trend in USDT dominance would indicate the opposite.
In an altcoin season, a strong downtrend is desirable. The Directional Movement Index on the 3-day chart showed a downtrend from late October to early April. This suggests that the market would need time to reset before the next downtrend.
Analysis of CryptoQuant data indicated that buying power has been increasing since mid-October. The exchange reserve of stablecoins reflects the buying power in the crypto market. Comparatively, the metric has not yet gone parabolic like it did in the previous cycle. Therefore, a rapid rise in stablecoin reserves would indicate another altcoin season.
Combining the Tether dominance chart with the altcoin season index can give investors an edge in the markets. It is anticipated that these indicators will provide valuable insights into the timing of the next altcoin season.
