Key Points
- Ethereum’s extreme volatility has led to substantial losses for both retail investors and whales.
- Despite the losses, optimism for Ethereum’s potential remains high among traders.
Ethereum has been marked by significant volatility in the past week, leading to widespread losses for traders.
This isn’t limited to retail investors, with whales also experiencing liquidations.
Whale Losses and Market Activity
Lookonchain data reveals that a particular whale, who had previously lost $4.5 million, increased their Ethereum position, showing faith in the asset’s potential. However, this move resulted in more losses.
This investor also withdrew 8,249 Ethereum from Binance, converted it to Compound (COMP), and borrowed 17.3 million Tether (USDT) from the platform to place a substantial bet.
Data from Coinglass indicates that other traders faced liquidation as well, with $6.28 million worth of long Ethereum positions liquidated within 24 hours.
Despite these setbacks, the number of long positions on Ethereum has risen significantly, indicating a bullish sentiment towards the asset’s future.
Ethereum’s Future Prospects
Ethereum’s Implied Volatility (IV) has increased recently, reflecting the high level of uncertainty and risk in the market.
Even though high IV is generally bearish, and traders often short an asset during periods of high IV, the overall sentiment towards Ethereum remains positive.
In the last 24 hours, Ethereum’s price increased by 3.78%, indicating short-term bullish momentum. However, analysis of Santiment’s data reveals a decline in network growth around Ethereum, suggesting that new addresses are losing interest in the token.
While Network Growth had declined, indicating a potential slowdown in new user adoption, the rise in velocity suggested increased trading activity and liquidity in the market.
Despite the price surge, the MVRV ratio for Ethereum remained negative, indicating that Ethereum holders were yet to realize profits. This suggests a continued holding pattern among Ethereum investors, potentially supporting further upward momentum for Ethereum’s price as holders awaited more favorable market conditions.
