Key Points
- Arthur Hayes predicts a gradual upward trend for Bitcoin, stabilizing between $60,000 and $70,000 by August.
- Hayes attributes the recent Bitcoin price drop to market correction, U.S. tax season, and other economic pressures.
Arthur Hayes, the ex-CEO of BitMEX, offers a ray of hope amidst the recent crypto-market turbulence. In his latest blog post, Hayes suggests that Bitcoin has reached a local bottom and anticipates a slow rise in the coming months.
Economic Pressures and Market Correction
Hayes’s viewpoint contrasts the prevalent market sentiment, which has been largely bearish due to Federal Reserve policy uncertainties and a general slowdown in cryptocurrency investments. He believes the recent 12% dip in Bitcoin’s price was a necessary market correction, induced by the U.S. tax season and the “sell the news” effect post Bitcoin’s latest halving.
The former BitMEX CEO also discussed the implications of the Federal Reserve’s quantitative tightening (QT) strategy. He suggests that the tapering of QT could increase liquidity in financial markets, potentially benefiting riskier assets like cryptocurrencies. Hayes even referred to this process as a form of “stealth money printing” that could boost asset prices and lead to a sustained recovery phase.
Bitcoin’s Future Trajectory
Hayes remains optimistic about the market’s ability to adapt to these changes and initiate a slow climb. He foresees a scenario where the market will stabilize and then begin a gradual ascent, mitigating the drastic price movements seen recently. Hayes stated, “A rally to above $60,000 and then range-bound price action between $60,000 and $70,000 until August.”
Despite this, some analysts, like Scott Melker, remain cautious. Melker suggests that because Bitcoin has broken past crucial support levels, this might trigger further price drops. He even believes that a potential freefall to about $52,000 wouldn’t be out of the question.
Melker also argued that the recent decline is relatively minor, marking only a 23% drop and well in line with previous corrections observed during this cycle. He added that a more significant correction of 30% to 40% is likely during this market phase.
