Ethereum Transactions Shrink by 54% – Here’s Why It’s Good News for ETH

Ethereum Transactions Shrink by 54% - Here's Why It's Good News for ETH

Key Points

  • Ethereum’s average transaction size has seen a significant decrease, suggesting a potential bottom for the cryptocurrency.
  • Despite potential short-term price drops, traders anticipate a quick recovery for Ethereum.

On May 19th, it was noted that the average transaction size for Ethereum (ETH) had dropped to $2,767, marking a 54.13% decline since the start of the month.

Initially, the average transaction size was $5,893, as reported by IntoTheBlock.

Understanding Transaction Size

The average transaction size is a measurement of the mean transaction value for an asset on a given day.

Spikes in this metric generally indicate high user activity, particularly from large investors and institutions. Conversely, a decrease in this metric suggests a lack of institutional interaction.

The recent state of Ethereum suggests a higher presence of retail users. This indicator also identifies potential tops and bottoms.

Ethereum’s Current State

From the aforementioned value, it appeared that Ethereum was closer to its bottom than the top. At the time of writing, Ethereum’s price was $3,106, showing that it had remained in the same range over the past 24 hours.

Based on this analysis, the cryptocurrency’s price could potentially increase in the short term. However, other factors need to be considered.

Data from Glassnode showed that the Ethereum Exchange Net Position Change has been mostly negative over the past 30 days.

This metric measures the 30-day change of the supply held in exchange wallets. A positive value implies that more coins are in exchanges, while a negative value indicates increased withdrawals from exchanges.

Interestingly, the metric turned positive on May 18th. At the time of writing, the Ethereum net position change was 81,715.

This increase could suggest that Ethereum participants are taking profits from the 6.50% increase over the past week.

If this number continues to rise, Ethereum’s price might fall below $3,000 before a potential rally. Conversely, if exchange withdrawals increase, the price could slowly rise towards $3,500. In a highly bullish scenario, an increase to $4,000 could be possible.

On May 17th, it was reported that options traders expected Ethereum’s price to reach $3,600 between May and the end of June.

Current data from Glassnode suggests that this sentiment has not changed. This is due to the signals from the Put/Call Ratio (PCR).

If the PCR is above 0.70, it suggests a bearish sentiment with more puts than calls. A reading below 0.50 implies the opposite. At the time of writing, Ethereum’s Put/Call Ratio was 0.35, indicating that most traders expect the value of the cryptocurrency to increase in the coming weeks.
