Bitcoin’s [BTC] price performance has been a topic of interest in the past week. Despite its inability to maintain a price above $70k, the cryptocurrency has seen an increase of over 3% in the last seven days.
Bitcoin’s Market Performance
Data from CoinMarketCap indicated that Bitcoin, often referred to as the king of cryptos, was slowly inching back towards the $69k mark after a drop from $70k. At the time of writing, Bitcoin was trading at $68,953.86, boasting a market capitalization of over $1.35 trillion.
Crypto analyst, Mags, recently tweeted about potential similarities between Bitcoin’s 2016 cycle and the current 2024 cycle. According to Mags, the RSI has returned from the overbought zone while the price moved sideways, much like it did in 2016.
Market Indicators and Bullish Trends
In 2016, the RSI surged from 60 to 90 three times before the price eventually peaked. Currently, the metric has spiked only once, indicating that Bitcoin’s bull rally could continue. If history repeats itself, Bitcoin could reach an all-time high.
Analysis of CryptoQuant’s data revealed that Bitcoin’s net deposit on exchanges was low compared to the last seven-day average, implying lower selling pressure. Miners were selling at a moderate rate, as evident from its low MPI. Additionally, the funding rate was also green, suggesting that derivatives investors were actively buying Bitcoin.
However, market sentiment around Bitcoin appeared bearish. Analysis showed that both Coinbase Premium and Korea Premium were red, indicating a dominant selling sentiment among US and Korean investors.
Further analysis of Bitcoin’s daily chart showed that the MACD displayed a bullish advantage in the market. The Chaikin Money Flow (CMF) also registered a sharp uptick, suggesting that the chances of Bitcoin turning bullish were high.
Despite these indicators, not all support a bullish trend. For instance, after a sharp increase, the Money Flow Index (MFI) started to decline, indicating a potential price correction in the coming days.
