Key Points
- Hyperliquid introduced HIP-4 to enable fully collateralized Outcomes contracts for prediction markets.
- The feature is in testing and has influenced recent HYPE token price movements.
Hyperliquid announced an upgrade to its HyperCore engine adding the HIP-4 protocol and support for Outcomes contracts. These contracts are designed to settle within predefined ranges.
According to a February 2 update from the project, Outcomes are fully collateralized instruments suited for prediction markets, insurance-style products, and other bounded financial services.
The team stated that HIP-4 is currently in a testing phase and only available on testnet. Deployment of standardized markets based on objective settlement data is planned after further technical development.
Expansion Into Prediction Markets
The duration of the testing period and a timeline for mainnet availability have not been disclosed. Once live, the protocol could potentially be used by existing prediction market platforms.
Interest in prediction markets has increased alongside broader adoption, including recent developments involving Coinbase and regulated market operators in the United States. This trend has also been observed in parts of Europe and Asia.
Following the HIP-4 announcement, Hyperliquid’s HYPE token rose more than 8% before stabilizing near prior levels. Trading data showed continued volatility as market participants reacted to the upgrade news.
