Bitcoin Tops $73000 as Weekly ETF Inflows Hit $586 Million

Key Points

  • Bitcoin surpasses $73,000 amid strong US spot ETF inflows totaling $586 million weekly.
  • BTC diverges from gold and equities despite rising oil prices and geopolitical tensions.

Bitcoin (BTC) climbed above $73,000 in early Monday trading, even as Middle East tensions pushed oil prices beyond $106 per barrel.

The move marked a divergence from traditional safe-haven assets, with gold and equities facing pressure from a stronger US dollar and rising bond yields.

Sustained institutional participation through US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds appears to be a key factor behind the rally.

### Institutional Flows and Market Decoupling

Institutional Demand Reshapes Market Behavior

US spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted roughly $586 million in inflows in the week preceding the latest geopolitical developments.

These inflows have contributed to consistent demand, absorbing sell-side liquidity that might otherwise weigh on prices.

Products such as BlackRock’s IBIT continued accumulating assets during periods of price fluctuation, reflecting longer-term allocation strategies.

According to remarks cited from BlackRock’s digital assets leadership, a large share of Bitcoin ETF investors are maintaining long-term positions.

This sustained accumulation reduces the available circulating supply on exchanges, particularly during high-volume sessions.

Over the past week, Bitcoin showed a negative 11% correlation with the S&P 500, highlighting its divergence from traditional equity benchmarks.

Following reports of a US-led strike on Iran’s Kharg Island terminal, Brent crude rose more than 3%, reinforcing inflation concerns and dollar strength.

While such conditions typically support gold, the metal declined below $5,100 as markets favored yield-bearing assets and currency strength.

In contrast, Bitcoin’s price action reflected asset-specific demand dynamics rather than broad risk-off sentiment.

The Federal Reserve’s upcoming rate decision remains a focal point, particularly as elevated oil prices complicate the inflation outlook.

Technical Outlook Above $73,000

Bitcoin’s rise to an intraday high near $73,421 cleared a consolidation range that had capped prices earlier in the month.

Holding the $72,500 zone may be important during periods of short-term profit-taking.

A break below that level could bring the $70,000 threshold back into focus, a price that previously acted as resistance.

A sustained move above $73,500 may shift short-term technical signals and expose potential targets between $75,000 and $78,000.

Recent gains were reinforced by a derivatives market adjustment, with around 60% of liquidations stemming from short positions.

Open interest has since rebuilt to approximately 88,000 BTC, indicating renewed participation while leverage levels continue to be monitored.
