Key Points
- Ripple invests in Zilo and Licuido to expand regulated tokenization infrastructure on XRPL.
- Move focuses on enabling collateral mobility, compliant issuance, and atomic settlement.
Ripple announced equity investments in UK-based firms Zilo and Licuido on August 3, 2026, deepening its capital markets infrastructure on the XRP Ledger (XRPL).
The move converts existing commercial partnerships into ownership stakes and adds regulated transfer agency, digital issuance, and collateral mobility services to the network.
Expanding the Tokenized Asset Infrastructure
Zilo provides regulated transfer agency and fund administration services, maintaining official records of ownership for tokenized share classes.
Such regulated ownership records are required for lenders and counterparties to extend credit or accept tokenized fund holdings as collateral.
Licuido, regulated by the UK Financial Conduct Authority, supports compliant issuance, distribution, trade execution, and collateral mobility.
Its role enables tokenized assets to circulate in on-chain markets rather than remain static on balance sheets.
Ripple’s dollar-pegged stablecoin RLUSD functions as the settlement layer for delivery-versus-payment transactions on XRPL.
This structure allows simultaneous exchange of tokenized assets and payment, typically settling within seconds on the ledger.
Together, Zilo’s ownership records, Licuido’s issuance and liquidity infrastructure, and RLUSD settlement aim to support a complete tokenized-asset lifecycle on XRPL.
At the time of the announcement, Bitcoin (BTC) traded in a broader crypto market showing moderate activity, while XRP changed hands at $1.07, up approximately 0.5% over 24 hours with daily volume near $965 million.
Institutional Deployments and Market Development
The investment follows Licuido’s role in the tokenization of the Aviva Investors USD Liquidity Fund on XRPL, which went live on July 29, 2026.
The structure was reported as the first tokenized fund approved by the Central Bank of Ireland on a public blockchain.
In February 2026, Ripple also announced a partnership with Aviva Investors to tokenize fund structures on XRPL, expanding institutional use cases.
A separate memorandum of understanding with DBS and Franklin Templeton outlined plans for the sgBENJI tokenized money market fund to function as repo collateral alongside RLUSD on DBS Digital Exchange.
Ripple executive Nigel Khakoo stated that tokenization’s broader value depends on enabling trading, settlement, lending, borrowing, and margin posting.
The focus has shifted from simply issuing tokenized assets to establishing secondary liquidity and financeable collateral at institutional scale.
Ripple is also participating in a UK government task force with 54 firms, including Circle, BlackRock, and J.P. Morgan, to explore live tokenized repo use cases.
Meanwhile, XRPL is preparing to roll out its xrpld 3.3.0 upgrade, designed to enhance tokenization and institutional finance capabilities.
Over the next 12 to 24 months, market participants are expected to assess whether these tokenized structures achieve sustained liquidity and broader institutional adoption.
