Key Points
Technical analyst Peter Brandt has predicted that Bitcoin could reach a value of $200,000. He bases his prediction on the digital currency’s recent surge above $57,000.
Bitcoin’s Path to $200,000
Brandt made his observations on X, stating that Bitcoin prices are now trading above the 15-month channel resistance. Earlier, Bitcoin broke above the upper trend line of the ascending channel.
Brandt believes that this breakout, coupled with the increased rate of Bitcoin absorption by institutions, could drive the cryptocurrency’s value even higher.
In light of these factors, Brandt revised his Bitcoin target from $120,000 to $250,000. He also suggested that this upward trend could continue until August or September 2025.
Traders also appear optimistic about Bitcoin, expecting its price to continue rising. Currently, Bitcoin is trading at its 2024 high after breaking out from the 15-month ascending channel. Traders anticipate further gains towards the 2021 high of around $70,000, citing institutional adoption as a key driver.
Since mid-January, billions of dollars have flowed into institutions following the US Securities and Exchange Commission’s approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs. In some cases, the number of coins purchased has exceeded those mined, creating a demand-side event that could further support Bitcoin prices.
New Era of Price Discovery
Matt Hougan, Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of Bitwise Asset Management, believes that this development will drive Bitcoin prices even higher. In a note shared by CEO Hunter Horsley, Hougan stated that Bitcoin has now entered a “new era of price discovery,” largely driven by large institutions in the United States.
Hougan attributes this surge in demand to spot Bitcoin ETFs, a derivative product that has broadened access to the cryptocurrency for a range of investors. He compared the recent sequence of events to “100 very wealthy people bidding on a house,” marking a significant shift from the previously limited group of investors, primarily retailers, before the US SEC approved the product.
Hougan anticipates further gains in Bitcoin’s value. He suggests that if family offices and institutions allocated just 1% of their assets under management to Bitcoin, the resulting investment would be over $1 trillion. This figure is roughly equal to Bitcoin’s current market cap and could have a significant impact on its price.
