Bitcoin Reaches Unprecedented High: Is Now The Time To Cash Out?

Navigating the Potential Volatility Surge Amid Bitcoin's Record High: A Speculative Activity Analysis

Bitcoin Reaches Unprecedented High: Is Now The Time To Cash Out?

Key Points

  • Bitcoin’s price sees strong bullish momentum, setting a new all-time high at $111.8k.
  • On-chain metrics suggest potential selling pressure as Bitcoin reaches new milestones.

Bitcoin’s price has experienced a significant surge, pushing past the $111k mark and setting a new all-time high at $111.8k. This represents a 2% increase from its previous all-time high of $109.6k, set in mid-January.

Traders with long positions are optimistic, despite some similarities to market conditions in December. According to a post by user Amr Taha on CryptoQuant Insights, the Estimated Leverage Ratio has climbed to 0.2, similar to the levels it reached in December 2024.

Open Interest and Volatility

The Open Interest on Binance is also nearing its December levels. High Open Interest indicates a strongly bullish sentiment, but it also suggests potential volatility in the short term. High speculative interest can often amplify both rallies and pullbacks.

Binance’s netflow data from 22 May showed that 4,435 BTC was sent to the exchange, the largest positive netflow since 07 April. This suggests potential selling pressure as Bitcoin’s price hits new highs. However, the 30-day moving average of the netflow data to Binance displayed a value of -1,318 BTC, suggesting that long-term holders are not yet panicking and selling.

Profit-Taking and Market Selling

The adjusted SOPR (aSOPR) metric, used to gauge the average profit or loss realized by all tokens moved on-chain, showed a reading above 1. This indicates that more investors are selling at a profit. Despite this, the 7-day moving average is not near its March 2024 or November 2024 highs, suggesting that if historical patterns hold, Bitcoin might have more room to grow in the current rally.

Long-term investors could look for long-term market top signals. The heightened Open Interest implies that traders and short-term holders should expect volatility and be prepared to take some profits.
