Bitcoin Sees $1.72B Weekly ETF Outflows as Investors Question Institutional Selloff Peak

Bitcoin ETFs record their largest weekly outflows in over a year, signaling intensified institutional pressure and raising questions about whether the latest wave of selling is nearing exhaustion.

Bitcoin Sees $1.72B Weekly ETF Outflows as Investors Question Institutional Selloff Peak

Key Points

  • U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs saw $1.72 billion in weekly outflows amid macroeconomic and geopolitical pressures.
  • Rising yields and AI equity rotation reduced institutional crypto exposure and pressured Bitcoin prices.

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $1.72 billion in net outflows for the week ending June 6, 2026, marking the largest weekly redemption since April 2025.

BTC fell nearly 18% during the week, its steepest decline this year, before rebounding 1.5% to trade around $63,100.

The withdrawals coincided with escalating Iran-Israel tensions that pushed oil prices up more than 5%.

A stronger-than-expected U.S. nonfarm payrolls report also fueled concerns that the Federal Reserve may delay interest rate cuts.

At the same time, institutional investors accelerated allocations into AI-related equities, reducing crypto exposure across diversified portfolios.

ETF Flow Trends and Institutional Positioning

According to data from SoSoValue, the latest weekly figure extends a four-week outflow streak totaling $5.4 billion.

Assets under management across spot Bitcoin ETFs declined from roughly $104 billion to $94 billion during this period.

BlackRock’s IBIT accounted for $440.3 million of the $483.8 million in total net outflows recorded on June 1, indicating concentrated institutional selling through the largest fund.

Since the launch of spot Bitcoin ETFs in January 2024, IBIT has been viewed as a key gauge of institutional sentiment.

Market analysts attribute the recent selling to rising inflation expectations, elevated Treasury yields, and reduced probability of near-term Federal Reserve easing.

Higher yields increase the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets such as Bitcoin through ETF structures.

Portfolio risk managers often adjust exposure through ETFs due to their liquidity and operational efficiency.

The strong labor market data reinforced expectations that interest rates may remain elevated for longer.

Macro Pressures and Capital Rotation

Research firms have described the current outflow pattern as a broader directional recalibration rather than short-term hedging activity.

This distinguishes it from previous redemption periods that were largely driven by liquidity adjustments.

Another contributing factor has been the rotation into AI-focused equities, including companies such as NVDA, MRVL, and MU, which posted significant weekly gains before retracing.

The surge in AI stocks offered investors alternative high-growth opportunities, diverting capital from crypto markets.

Elevated Treasury yields have supported this rotation and acted as a consistent headwind for digital asset valuations.
