Key Points
- Bitcoin whales have been accumulating large amounts of BTC, contributing to the price rise.
- Despite the increase in whale activity, retail investor interest in BTC appears to be declining.
Bitcoin has been a source of significant optimism in recent times, especially as its price surpassed the $69,000 mark. A major driving force behind this surge could be the increasing interest shown by Bitcoin whales.
Data from Lookonchain reveals that one such whale accumulated a staggering 113.735 BTC, which is equivalent to $7.85 million, from Binance. Since March 6, this particular whale has collected a total of 1,308 BTC, worth approximately $89.75 million, at an average price of $68,617.
The Impact of Whale Activity
This surge in confidence from large investors could potentially attract more buyers, driving the price even higher. Moreover, the involvement of whales in the market could validate Bitcoin’s potential, thereby strengthening the market further.
However, the influence of whales is a double-edged sword. While their activity can boost prices, it can also trigger sharp drops if they choose to sell their holdings. Despite the accelerated accumulation of BTC by whales, retail investors seem to be showing less interest.
Analysis of data from Santiment by AMBCrypto suggests that the concentration of addresses holding between 0.001 and 1.0 BTC has decreased. If this trend of whale accumulation and retail investor passivity continues, BTC holdings could become more centralized, making retail investors more susceptible to whale activity.
The Role of Network Activity
Aside from holder behavior, another factor that could influence BTC’s price is the activity on the Bitcoin network. Data from Santiment shows that the number of Active Addresses on the network has remained high.
This high network activity could be partly due to the increasing popularity of Ordinals and Inscriptions on the Bitcoin network. Data from CryptoSlam reviewed by AMBCrypto indicates that the number of unique buyers and sellers, as well as the number of NFT sales on the Bitcoin network, has increased.
Traders also remain hopeful about Bitcoin’s prospects. The declining Put to Call ratio around Bitcoin over the last few days suggests that many bulls expect BTC’s price to continue rising and possibly reach its previous all-time highs.
