Key Points
- Federal Open Market Committee’s (FOMC) warnings haven’t deterred growth in Bitcoin ETFs, which continue to see net inflows.
- Bitcoin ETFs are increasingly viewed as institutional assets, offering a simplified investment route amidst evolving regulations.
Despite recent warnings from the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) advocating patience over interest rate cuts and cautioning about persistent inflation, Bitcoin ETFs continue to experience growth.
These warnings led to a decline in U.S equity markets, yet the Bitcoin ETF market remained resilient, showing ongoing net inflows.
Bitcoin ETFs: A Growing Institutional Asset
Bitcoin ETFs are being increasingly seen as institutional assets, poised for growth amidst a changing regulatory landscape.
Eric Balchunas, a Senior ETF analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence, highlighted the resilience of Bitcoin, stating that the majority of the 40% gains in Bitcoin since ETF launch have been after hours, forming significant price gaps between close and open.
Data from BitMEX’s research report revealed that BTC spot ETF market net inflows surged from $40.2 million on 2 April to $113.2 million on 3 April.
Leading the Influx
The Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC) led the influx with net inflows of $116.7 million on 3 April. The Bitwise Bitcoin ETF (BITB) also recorded net inflows of $22.6 million over the same period.
Hunter Horsley, Founder & CEO of Bitwise Asset Management, stated that Bitwise aims to be a teaching assistant for crypto. He also expressed confidence that ETFs approval and BlackRock’s involvement means Bitcoin is not going to zero.
Matt Hougan, CIO of Bitwise Asset Management, pointed out how ETF approval has gradually expanded from retail investors and independent advisors to larger institutions.
Despite limited adoption in U.S wealth management, optimism remains for ETF expansion as regulations evolve. Analysts believe that Bitcoin ETFs offer a simplified investment route, avoiding operational complexities.
Horsley stated that it’s not unreasonable to expect multiple hundreds of billions of dollars in these ETFs and allocation sizes between 1% and 5% as the asset matures.
He concluded by saying that Bitcoin is now considered an institutional asset.
The upcoming U.S Jobs Report could shape investor sentiment towards Bitcoin. Additionally, with Bitcoin’s halving on the horizon, sustained demand through the ETF market could help stabilize the cryptocurrency’s price.
