- Eclipse plans to share more background information on its senior leadership team.
Neel Somani, the founder and CEO of Eclipse, has chosen to limit his public-facing role at the Ethereum scaling solution following allegations of sexual harassment.
In response to these accusations, Somani stated he will temporarily reduce his role as the public face of Eclipse, allowing the senior leaders to take on these responsibilities and let the truth about these allegations emerge.
Somani’s Role and Eclipse’s Future
During an interview with The Block, Somani clarified that he hasn’t resigned as CEO, but will merely limit his appearances on podcasts and panels.
Eclipse is a customizable roll-up that utilizes the Solana Virtual Machine to enhance scaling and development on Ethereum. It also provides developers the flexibility to select the L1 blockchain they prefer for security.
Eclipse has attracted over $65 million in Series A funding from prominent venture capitalists, including Fenbushi Capital and Delphi Digital. However, the allegations against Somani could potentially impact these relationships and Eclipse as a whole.
An executive at Dragon Capital noted that they decided not to invest in Eclipse after hearing about Somani’s history of sexual harassment. The executive also said that he advised some venture capitalists against investing in Eclipse following their due diligence.
Addressing the Allegations
In an effort to prevent further accusations and a potential backlash from venture capitalists, Eclipse released a statement outlining their next steps. The statement indicated that they will share more information about their senior leaders in the coming days and expressed confidence in their team’s ability to reach new heights as a protocol.
It remains to be seen how Eclipse will handle the public scrutiny and its relationships with venture capitalist partners going forward.
The impact of these developments on the planned L2 mainnet launch, scheduled for Q2 2024, is also uncertain.
