Key Points
On-chain Bitcoin (BTC) analyst, Willy Woo, has expressed optimism about the future of Bitcoin. He attributes this to the strong demand and dwindling supply of the cryptocurrency.
In his analysis, he noted that Bitcoin absorbs an average of $607 million daily from new investor demand, while only $46 million of new supply is created through mining.
Understanding Bitcoin’s Demand and Supply
The Bitcoin network is a proof-of-work platform that depends on miners for security and decentralization, making its transactions resistant to censorship and global.
Despite concerns about centralization, the wide network of miners is seen as crucial for the platform, explaining its enormous valuation.
Miners receive a reward of 6.25 BTC for every block they mine, which amounts to about $46 million every 24 hours. However, the fiat value fluctuates depending on spot rates.
Woo explains that the growing demand, estimated at about $607 million per day, takes into account changes in the realized cap. This is a metric that displays the total amount investors have paid for the current circulating BTC, considering the price at which each was purchased.
However, Woo notes that the realized cap, and consequently, the level of demand injected into Bitcoin, is conservative. This is because it only captures on-chain transactions.
Woo believes that this imbalance may drive prices even higher in the future. He expects this trend to accelerate ahead of the next Bitcoin halving scheduled for early April 2024.
Bitcoin halving happens approximately every four years, reducing the new BTC created per block by 50%. Woo believes this decrease in supply, along with the already strong demand, will push prices higher, rapidly increasing the realized cap.
Reddit’s Impact on the Crypto Market
Woo’s bullish outlook is further bolstered by recent news that Reddit, a popular social media platform, plans to invest some of its excess cash into Bitcoin and Ethereum (ETH).
Recent reports reveal that Reddit is planning to go public, having filed for an initial public offering (IPO) this week.
The endorsement of cryptocurrencies by a major technology company like Reddit highlights the growing institutional adoption, which is a net positive for investor confidence. Reddit’s IPO prospectus shows that its revenue expanded 20% in 2023.
With over 70 million daily active users, it is expected that a significant portion of funds will be invested into BTC and ETH once Reddit goes public.
