Key Points
- Bitcoin’s ETFs’ assets under management (AUM) surpass $50 billion, indicating increased retail interest.
- Despite the high AUM, retail investors are engaging in profit-taking, which could hinder Bitcoin’s rally.
Bitcoin’s [BTC](https://coineagle.com/price/bitcoin/) price has regained momentum after a brief slowdown in early March.
This resurgence is partly due to the growing retail interest in the cryptocurrency.
Rising Retail Interest
A clear sign of this rising interest is the recent surpassing of $50 billion in assets under management (AUM) for Bitcoin spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs).
This milestone reflects the increasing mainstream adoption of Bitcoin and the substantial capital inflows into Bitcoin spot ETFs.
This suggests a wider acceptance of digital assets within traditional financial instruments.
However, retail investors are also seen to be taking profits.
Profit-Taking Among Retail Investors
According to a CryptoQuant analyst, the SOPR STH, a metric used since April 2023, indicates that short-term holders, often retail investors, haven’t reached the mid-range marked on the chart.
This suggests that retail participants are returning to the market to capitalize on profit opportunities as Bitcoin’s price rises.
Short-term holders are usually considered retail investors, as they speculate on price appreciation during a trend.
The SOPR STH evaluates Unspent Transaction Outputs (UTXOs) with a lifespan of 1 hour to 155 days on-chain, analyzing profit/loss within the creation and output spent window.
As this category of investors increases, it brings the risk of a local top formation due to these traders providing liquidity, allowing larger players to fulfill their orders in the market.
Despite these observations, there is still a considerable gap to reach the Extreme Greed range.
Historically, Bitcoin’s price has visited this range multiple times during previous bullish cycles, suggesting that there may be further potential for upward movement despite the ongoing profit-taking among retail investors.
At the time of writing, BTC was trading at $67,623.50, with a price increase of 2.61% in the last 24 hours.
