Ethereum ETF Approval: Optimism and Caution
Despite the high optimism for an Ethereum ETF approval, certain factors indicate that a cautious approach might be necessary.
Grayscale’s chief legal officer, Craig Salm, has shed light on the SEC’s strong case for approval, stating that perceived lack of engagement from regulators should not be seen as indicative of an outcome.
He also pointed out that issues concerning spot Ethereum ETFs were largely resolved before the approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs.
Challenges and Future Prospects
However, the integration of staking into spot Ether ETFs might present new hurdles for applicants such as Ark 21Shares, Fidelity, and Franklin Templeton.
Despite the general optimism, Bloomberg analyst Eric Balchunas has maintained a conservative estimate of a 25% chance of approval.
Salm also hinted that the recent approval of Ether Futures ETFs, classified as commodity futures, could set the stage for spot Ether ETFs.
This view is shared by other industry experts, including Paul Grewal from Coinbase and former CFTC commissioner Brian Quintenz.
With several prominent applicants such as BlackRock, VanEck, and Fidelity awaiting SEC approval for spot Ether ETFs, the decision deadline for VanEck’s application is being keenly watched.
