Key Points
- Bitcoin experienced a 2.31% dip post-halving, but ETF inflows surged, boosting investor confidence.
- Expansion of crypto-ETFs beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum could drive mainstream adoption.
Bitcoin’s halving event brought about unexpected outcomes. Despite the hype, Bitcoin’s value fell by 2.31% within a 24-hour period. Yet, the Bitcoin ETF market saw a significant shift, with a sudden influx of positive net inflows right before the halving day.
According to data from Farside Investors, half of the ETFs recorded positive inflows, totaling up to $59.7 million. This reflects the growing investor confidence in Bitcoin’s performance, pre and post-halving, within the ETF space.
Potential Expansion of Crypto-ETFs
In a recent interview, Sergey Nazarov, Co-founder of Chainlink, discussed the potential expansion of the crypto-ETF space beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum. He believes that more ETFs will emerge about coins other than Bitcoin and Ethereum, driving broader adoption of digital assets and mainstream integration of Web3 technologies.
On a similar note, Anthony Scaramucci, Founder of SkyBridge Capital, also shared his thoughts on Bitcoin’s adoption curve. He noted that Bitcoin’s volatility will persist until it achieves over a billion users.
The recent approval of Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs in Hong Kong marks a positive step towards mainstream adoption. However, the success projections for these new ETFs vary, as U.S-based ETFs have accumulated nearly $60 billion in assets since their launch.
Future of Crypto-ETFs
Senior Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas commented that other countries adding BTC ETFs is a small step compared to the impact of the U.S market. Following this, a question arose regarding the SEC’s potential rejection of spot Ethereum ETF applications.
In response, Jupiter Zheng, Head of Research at Hashkey Capital, stated that a denial would not significantly impact the market as it is not yet priced in. He added that Bitcoin ETFs will continue to serve as the entrance for traditional funds.
Sergey Nazarov believes that adoption will dictate entry into the crypto-market. To address concerns about mainstream adoption, the crypto-industry needs to focus on enhancing usability, scalability, connectivity, and privacy. Improvements in these areas would attract broader adoption and drive the industry forward.
