Ethereum Whale Secures $100M Stake in Starknet Airdrop

Solo Node Operator Runs 1,000 Validators to Capitalize on STRK Reward Program

"Ethereum Whale Secures $100M Stake in Starknet Airdrop"

Key Points

  • An Ethereum whale has staked a claim over the upcoming Starknet airdrop by independently operating 1000 validators.
  • The validators were misidentified as a Centralized Exchange (CEX) due to their magnitude, causing confusion about their airdrop eligibility.
  • The solo operator, identified as ‘Sullendef’ on GitHub, runs validators worth around $100 million in Ethereum (ETH).
  • Despite the high technical proficiency and significant resources required, the operator runs these validators using a personal computer.
  • The operator fears that his earned STRK airdrop rewards might be redirected to the cryptocurrency exchange, Kraken, due to misidentification.
  • The Starknet Foundation plans to launch a provisions program, distributing over 700 million STRK to nearly 1.3 million addresses.

An Ethereum whale has recently claimed the anticipated Starknet airdrop.

The sole node operator intends to participate in the Starknet (STRK) reward program by independently running a staggering 1000 validators.

The validators managed by the solitary whale were inaccurately identified as a Centralized Exchange (CEX).

This misidentification led to confusion about their eligibility for the airdrop due to the enormous size of the operation.

Solo Operator Runs Validators Worth $90 Million

In a recent post on a social media site, a cryptocurrency community member disclosed that a Genesis solo staker, known as ‘Sullendef,’ on GitHub, single-handedly manages 1000 validators.

It was revealed that these validators hold a cumulative value of approximately $100 million in Ethereum (ETH).

Validators play a crucial role in securing and maintaining blockchain networks.

Despite their contribution to the overall consensus mechanism of a blockchain, they can be challenging to manage.

Operating a validator requires high technical expertise and often necessitates complex and expensive hardware specifications.

Therefore, many developers express surprise at the idea of a node operator successfully running 1000 validators independently.

The solo operator openly shared on GitHub that he has been running these validators using his personal computer at home.

This fact highlights his high dedication and technical skill in navigating blockchain technology.

While there is no hard limit to the number of validators one can manage on a single machine, the resources and expenses necessary to run 1000 remain substantial.

Solo Operator Aims to Claim Massive STRK Airdrop

In a GitHub post, Sullendef revealed that his 1000 validators might have been mistakenly linked with a prominent cryptocurrency exchange, Kraken.

The solo staker has expressed concerns about his earned STRK airdrop rewards possibly being unintentionally redirected to Kraken due to this misidentification.

Sullendef disclosed his participation as one of the stakers eligible for the airdrops.

He has remained actively involved in the community, expressing frustration over a message received while attempting to set up a withdrawal address.

The Starknet Foundation, a nonprofit start-up, plans to launch a provisions program to recognize contributions from Ethereum developers, stakers, and Starknet in advancing the network.

The foundation intends to distribute over 700 million STRK to nearly 1.3 million addresses.

Rated, an organization assisting Starknet in the airdrop process, is investigating the case.

The organization’s CTO, Ari Koliopoulos, responded to the mysterious whale.

Starknet plans to reward Ethereum stakers who participated in staking ETH before the Proof of Stake (PoS) merge.

The foundation stated it would allocate approximately 22% of the total STRK provision to these stakers.

The message read, “You are eligible to receive more than one million STRK, to be distributed further to your stakers. The Starknet Foundation will be in touch with someone from your organization”.

The solo node operator stated that he has never initiated communication with the Starknet Foundation and urged a swift resolution to prevent misdirection of his airdrop rewards.

It remains uncertain if the whale will receive compensation.
