Galaxy Digital, under the leadership of CEO and founder Mike Novogratz, saw a remarkable financial year in 2023, with a net income of $296M. This is a stark contrast to the loss of $1B during the crypto winter in 2022.
Strong Performance and Future Potential
In a conference call discussing the 2023 results, Novogratz expressed excitement about the company’s performance amidst a crypto bull market. He also highlighted the significant increase in Bitcoin’s value, which was at $35,000 in mid-November and reached $70,000 by the time of the call.
Galaxy’s assets under management (AUM) also saw a steady increase, reaching $5B in Q4 2023 and doubling to $10B by February 2024, thanks to the US spot BTC ETF frenzy.
Despite the impressive performance in 2023, Novogratz sees more potential for growth. He cited macro factors and the participation of baby boomers in the crypto rally as significant driving forces.
Boomer Wealth and Bitcoin Adoption
Novogratz highlighted the potential impact of “boomer wealth,” noting that the introduction of the ETF has opened up the $80 trillion baby boomer wealth in the US. He added that as people increase their allocation to Bitcoin, demand is likely to exceed supply.
In partnership with Invesco, Galaxy Digital offers clients Bitcoin exposure through the Invesco Galaxy Bitcoin ETF (BTCO). As of the time of writing, the fund holds 5.4K Bitcoin.
Bitcoin’s value has been fluctuating around $70K following a range breakout on Monday, March 25. It remains to be seen how the post-halving prices will affect Galaxy’s margins.
