Key Points
- Bitcoin’s market remains in the euphoria phase despite recent price troubles, according to Glassnode.
- A local bottom for Bitcoin may soon be discovered based on MVRV ratio and Realized Loss metrics.
Despite recent dips in price, the Bitcoin (BTC) market continues to exude a sense of euphoria. This is evidenced by the coin’s MVRV ratio and Realized Loss metrics, which hint at an impending local bottom.
Euphoria in the Bitcoin Market
The Net Unrealized Profit & Loss (NUPL) metric of Bitcoin suggests that the market is still in the euphoria phase, with significant unrealized gains among investors. This phase is characterized by widespread optimism and the belief that the coin’s price will perpetually rise.
During this phase, there is typically a surge in price growth and trading activity. Despite the recent market correction, the coin’s NUPL remaining above 0.5 indicates that euphoric elements are still present in the Bitcoin market.
Impact of Price Correction
The recent price correction has led to increased distribution among Bitcoin’s short-term holders (STHs), particularly those who have held their coins for periods between one week and one month. This distribution activity becomes significant during market corrections as it can help identify potential buying opportunities.
The MVRV ratio of coins held between one week and one month usually “drops into the 0.9-1 range” during bull market corrections. This indicates that investors who have held their coins for this duration typically experience a 0% to 10% decline in their assets, prompting them to sell.
The on-chain data provider also analyzed the Realized Loss by one-week to one-month-old entities. Historical data suggests that when this metric goes above 1, it indicates that STHs are panic selling at a loss.
Combining the readings from both metrics, Glassnode concludes that as the price stays within the $60k to $66.7k range, the MVRV condition is met. This could be an indication that the market is forming a local bottom. However, a sustained break below that MVRV level could trigger a cascade of panic and force a new equilibrium to be found and established.
