Key Points
- Altcoins have recently performed well in relation to Bitcoin, with the market capitalization of both growing steadily.
- A Bitcoin surge and temporary altcoin slump is predicted for the first half of June based on technical analysis.
The positioning chart of altcoins indicates a strong performance in comparison to Bitcoin recently. The market capitalization of altcoins, as well as Bitcoin, has seen a consistent increase.
The slump in Bitcoin’s price in early May was brief. There was a negative inflow into ETFs for around a week at the start of May, but this quickly rebounded.
Strong Demand for Bitcoin
The last two weeks have seen consistent inflows, indicating a strong demand for Bitcoin. Altcoins have also performed well in the past month. Memecoins have been some of the top performers, but the overall altcoin market has also expanded.
Crypto analyst Jessica Miranda noted on X (formerly Twitter) that altcoins have been more prominent than Bitcoin recently. Despite Bitcoin holding just over 54% of the market share, altcoins have outperformed it.
Historical Trends and Future Predictions
Miranda mentioned that these trends usually do not last long and are often followed by a downturn in Bitcoin prices. This has been the case for the majority of the past nine months. However, there have been periods during intense bull runs where altcoins outperform Bitcoin.
Miranda suggests that if this pattern continues, Bitcoin may see a dip in the coming weeks. However, considering the recent Bitcoin breakout past the $67k resistance, this seems unlikely.
The dominance of Bitcoin is nearing a short-term low at 54%, suggesting it could bounce back soon. This would interrupt any rally initiated by the altcoin market but would also challenge expectations of a Bitcoin price drop.
The possibility of a pullback in the altcoin market becomes more credible when the altcoin market cap is analysed. The market cap chart is nearing a key resistance zone at $1.24 trillion. A rejection from this region is expected from a technical analysis standpoint, although this resistance is likely to be broken due to the strong uptrend of the past eight months.
Therefore, technical analysis predicts a surge in Bitcoin and a temporary slump in altcoins for the first half of June.
