Key Points
- Bitcoin reached a new all-time high of over $72,000, largely attributed to Bitcoin ETFs.
- The London Stock Exchange will begin accepting applications for Bitcoin and Ethereum ETNs in Q2.
Bitcoin [BTC] has set a new record by reaching an all-time high (ATH) of over $72,000.
This milestone coincides with significant regulatory developments, such as the UK Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) approval of crypto-backed exchange-traded notes (ETNs) for institutional investors.
London Stock Exchange and Crypto ETNs
In addition, the London Stock Exchange has announced plans to start accepting applications for Bitcoin and Ethereum [ETH] ETNs during the second quarter of this year.
Zach Pandl, Managing Director of Research at Grayscale Investments, explained how these advancements could boost BTC’s demand during an interview with Fox Business.
He attributed Bitcoin’s impressive performance to the growing demand for new spot Bitcoin ETFs, which have attracted approximately $10 billion in investments since their inception in early January.
Market Trends and Predictions
Pandl pointed out the cyclical nature of the market, highlighting the current momentum indicating a bull market phase.
Consequently, he predicted the possibility of continued price increases.
Given Bitcoin’s status as a macro asset, Pandl advised investors to keep a close eye on inflation and Federal Reserve policy, as these factors are essential for assessing the sustainability of the current Bitcoin bull market.
On the other hand, JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon, a well-known Bitcoin skeptic, advised the Federal Reserve to delay interest rate cuts beyond June to strengthen its ability to combat inflation.
When asked about the impact of the upcoming US elections on cryptocurrency, Pandl noted that many cryptocurrency discussions in the current Congress have been bipartisan.
He suggested the possibility of progress in legislation, such as stablecoin regulation, regardless of the election results.
Pandl stated, “Bitcoin competes with the US dollar and physical gold, so we should be looking at things like the amount of deficit spending that’s expected, how much debt growth we can expect in the US, what are the risks of inflation.”
These macroeconomic indicators can drive demand for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies beyond the direct effects of targeted legislative changes.
