- Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley observes a growing trend of crypto holders revealing their investments.
- LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman’s recent purchase of CryptoPunk highlights the increased acceptance of crypto.
Hunter Horsley, the CEO of Bitwise, recently discussed the increasing trend of cryptocurrency holders publicly acknowledging their investments.
This observation was made in response to Reid Hoffman, the founder of LinkedIn, purchasing a digital collectible known as CryptoPunk.
Increased Acceptance of Crypto
On October 24, Hoffman announced that he had acquired CryptoPunk several months prior.
His announcement surprised many, as he revealed that he has been investing in the digital asset space for nearly 13 years and is now part of one of the most influential crypto communities.
Horsley pointed out that many influential individuals and companies who hold cryptocurrencies typically do not publicize this fact.
However, this trend seems to be shifting as more and more crypto holders are coming forward, likely due to the growing acceptance of crypto globally.
According to Horsley, this increased transparency about crypto ownership will surprise many skeptics, who will find themselves in the minority.
Growing Crypto Ownership Among Institutional Investors
As Horsley noted, there has been a significant rise in the number of cryptocurrency owners.
This trend is particularly prominent among institutional investors, with companies like Strategy, led by Michael Saylor, leading the charge.
Supporting this observation is Sygnum Bank’s annual survey, which found that 57% of institutional investors plan to increase their crypto allocations.
However, this view contrasts with the opinion of JPMorgan analysts, who reported that 71% of investors plan to avoid crypto entirely in 2025.
Despite this skepticism, largely due to market volatility and unclear regulations, there has been a slight increase in crypto involvement, especially following Donald Trump’s presidency.
