Key Points
- Ethereum transaction fees have surged to over 9,000 ETH, highest in ten months.
- Ethereum’s transaction volume also hit a ten-month high, exceeding $51 billion.
Ethereum’s Rising Transaction Fees
The transaction fees for Ethereum (ETH) have recently seen a significant increase.
This surge aligns with the asset’s rising price and the network’s preparations for an upgrade aimed at reducing fees.
Data from the Ethereum network shows a steady rise in transaction fees since the start of March.
At the beginning of the month, fees were around 6,300 ETH, but they have now surged to over 9,000 ETH, the highest in over ten months.
Upcoming Dencun Upgrade
This fee increase coincides with an increase in transaction volume and the Ethereum developers setting a date for the latest update.
The developers have set 13th March as the target date for the much-anticipated Dencun upgrade.
One of the key features of this upgrade is the “proto-dank sharding” feature, designed to reduce transaction costs on auxiliary “layer-2” networks built on Ethereum.
This is achieved by providing a dedicated space for data storage, introducing a new transaction class, and incorporating data “blobs” to lower the costs of publishing transaction data on roll-ups.
Ethereum’s Transaction Volume
A look at Ethereum volume data reveals the recent increase in network fees.
On 6th March, the transaction volume was over $51 billion, marking the first time since 2022 that Ethereum saw such high volume.
The previous day, the volume had surged to over $47 billion, representing the highest recorded monthly volume.
However, at the time of writing, the volume has dropped significantly to over $27 billion, indicating a notable decrease.
Ethereum’s Price Trend
On 6th March, Ethereum surged to approximately $3,820, reflecting a remarkable 7% increase based on daily timeframe analysis.
This price level marked the highest ETH had reached in over a year.
However, at the time of writing, the price has experienced a slight decline of around 0.4%, settling at about $3,815.
Despite this modest dip, it maintained its position within the $3,800 price range, indicating a resilient and strong bull trend at the time of writing.
