Key Points
- Tim Draper predicts a 3.5X increase in Bitcoin’s value by the end of 2024, reaching $250K per BTC.
- BitMEX founder Arthur Hayes, however, forecasts the upcoming halving as a sell-the-news event.
Venture capitalist Tim Draper has made a bold prediction for the future of Bitcoin. He anticipates a 3.5X surge in the cryptocurrency’s value by the end of 2024, with each Bitcoin potentially worth $250K.
Draper’s Predictions and Reasoning
Draper’s prediction implies a substantial increase from Bitcoin’s current price of approximately $70K, highlighting the potential growth of the cryptocurrency. The venture capitalist had previously set the same target for Bitcoin by the first quarter of 2023, but this prediction did not materialize. However, his 2014 prediction that Bitcoin would reach $10K within three years was accurate.
When asked about his previous $250K prediction for 2023, Draper responded that he had been overly optimistic, not anticipating resistance from bureaucrats in a “free country”. He further noted that good leadership is about trusting people and setting them free, rather than trying to control them with fiat currency.
Contrasting Views on the Upcoming Halving
Regarding the upcoming halving event, Draper expressed optimism, stating that investors should not bet against it. He believes that the supply shock following the halving could further boost Bitcoin’s price.
However, Arthur Hayes, the founder of BitMEX, has a different perspective. He predicts the halving to be a sell-the-news event, potentially leading to a liquidity crunch in mid-April.
In the meantime, Bitcoin’s price continues to consolidate around its previous cycle high, fluctuating between $68.3K and $71.5K. As the halving event approaches, more market players seem to be taking a wait-and-see approach.
