Uncovering the Silver Lining When Selling Bitcoin at a Loss

Key Points

  • Bitcoin’s price crosses $67K, hinting at a potential bull rally.
  • Short-term holders selling off BTC at a loss could trigger a price increase in the coming days.

Bitcoin’s [BTC](https://coineagle.com/price/bitcoin/) price has recently crossed the $67K mark, suggesting a possible bull rally. Short-term holders have been selling off significant amounts of BTC on exchanges at a loss. This sudden sell-off might actually be beneficial for BTC, as it could trigger a bull rally in the near future.

Short-term Holders and BTC Price

Crypto-analyst Alex reported an intriguing development concerning short-term holders. According to his tweet, from March 19 to April 4, short-term holders sold 106.8K BTCs at a loss on exchanges. Interestingly, a similar sell-off at a loss by short-term holders in January led to a bullish momentum in BTC’s price, resulting in a new all-time high. This recent trend could indicate a potential price increase in the days to come.

However, it’s worth noting that the amount of BTC sold by short-term holders in January was almost three times more than what was sold between March and April.

Bitcoin’s Market Indicators

CryptoQuant’s data revealed that Bitcoin’s short-term holder SOPR registered an increase after declining on April 2. Historical data suggests that when these metrics rise, BTC’s price usually follows a similar upward trend. At the time of writing, BTC’s price action was already showing signs of recovery as it crossed the $67k mark.

Furthermore, BTC’s exchange reserve has been decreasing, indicating that the overall selling pressure is low. The coin’s binary CDD was green, suggesting that long-term holders’ movements in the last 7 days were lower than average.

On the derivatives side, BTC’s funding rate was increasing. However, Bitcoin’s taker buy/sell ratio indicated that selling sentiment was dominant in the derivatives market.

An analysis of BTC’s daily chart pointed out that both BTC’s Chaikin Money Flow (CMF) and Money Flow Index (MFI) registered slight upticks, indicating potential northbound price movement. If a bull rally occurs, it is crucial for BTC to cross $71k before it targets its all-time high. However, the Relative Strength Index (RSI) remained in the sellers’ favor as it declined over the last few days.
