Key Points
Ethereum’s recent price rise has generated a wave of optimism among traders in recent weeks. The increase in the price of Ethereum (ETH) has led to a significant surge in Open Interest (OI).
Open Interest and Ethereum’s Performance
According to data from crypto analyst Gretaest_Trader on CryptoQuant, the Open Interest of Ethereum has seen a marked improvement. Open Interest represents the total number of open Futures contracts on all exchanges, regardless of the direction of the trade.
The data reveals that Ethereum’s Open Interest has reached its highest level since July 2022. However, this increased optimism also indicates a higher risk of price volatility. At the time of writing, Ethereum was trading at $2,926.08, showing a 0.15% growth in the last 24 hours.
The trading velocity of Ethereum has also increased. This suggests that the frequency of Ethereum trades has significantly picked up in recent days. Despite these positive indicators, the Network Growth of Ethereum has seen a decline.
This downturn implies that new addresses might be losing interest in Ethereum. It could be argued that the recent price rise of the altcoin is due to existing holders accumulating more Ethereum, rather than an influx of new participants.
This change in network dynamics raises questions about the sustainability of Ethereum’s current price rally. It may lack the support of a growing user base. However, the forthcoming Dencun upgrade could attract new liquidity to Ethereum, potentially supporting the ongoing price rally of the altcoin.
