Key Points
- Ethereum’s market cap surged by over 9% on April 8th, exceeding $440 billion.
- The Market Value to Realized Value (MVRV) ratio indicates potential for further price increase.
On April 8th, Ethereum (ETH) demonstrated impressive growth, with its market cap increasing by over 9%.
This surge pushed its market cap beyond $440 billion, challenging the perception of Ethereum as slow-moving in the current cycle.
MVRV Ratio Analysis
The Market Value to Realized Value (MVRV) ratio, an indicator of trader behavior, was analyzed. The MVRV ratio can aid in identifying asset price peaks and troughs.
From April 1st to 7th, Ethereum’s 30-day MVRV ratio was negative, hinting at a potential buying opportunity based on historical patterns.
In October 2023, for example, the ratio was -4.90 when Ethereum was trading at $1,566. Weeks later, the price exceeded $2,000. A similar pattern was observed in January, with Ethereum’s price rising from $2,237 to $4,088.
In both instances, the price rose by 21.7% and 45.27% respectively. Currently, Ethereum has only increased by 7.89%. If history repeats itself, the price could potentially reach $4,648 in the coming weeks, barring any major market volatility.
Trading Activity and Open Interest
Traders capitalized on the price increase to make profits, a feat Ethereum holders had been unable to achieve in recent weeks. The daily on-chain transaction volume in loss was $129,000, while the volume in profit was approximately 238,000.
If Ethereum’s price continues to rise, the volume in profit could potentially double the volume in loss. However, this is dependent on whether Ethereum sustains the rally.
Open Interest (OI), a measure of trader activity, was also examined. Ethereum’s OI rose to $14.41 billion, indicating an increase in contracts opened, with buyers being the dominant force.
The convergence of Ethereum’s price and the OI could potentially trigger a significant price movement. From a trading standpoint, the large OI combined with the rising value could result in a breakout, potentially pushing Ethereum’s price above $4,000.
