Microsoft’s board is set to address a proposal to explore Bitcoin investments at its shareholder meeting on December 10th. This proposal has attracted significant attention, but the board has recommended voting against it. The company has already considered such strategies, according to a recent filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Microsoft’s Stance on Bitcoin
Microsoft has emphasized its stance against Bitcoin investment in a company statement opposing the proposal. The tech giant continues to monitor trends and developments related to cryptocurrencies to inform future decision making. Past evaluations have included Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies among the options considered.
The National Center for Public Policy Research (NCPPR) initiated the proposal. The NCPPR pointed to MicroStrategy’s Bitcoin investment approach, which it claims has outperformed Microsoft’s stock by over 300% in the past year. The NCPPR also highlighted the growing trend of institutional and corporate interest in Bitcoin, including through spot Bitcoin ETFs.
Bitcoin’s Top Holders
BTC institutional holdings have grown remarkably, with major players like Satoshi Nakamoto, Binance, BlackRock, Grayscale, and MicroStrategy all steadily increasing their stakes in the leading cryptocurrency. The race to secure Bitcoin has intensified to the point where Bitcoin ETFs are nearing the total holdings attributed to Nakamoto.
MicroStrategy’s Bitcoin acquisition strategy has inspired entities such as Japan’s Metaplanet. Moreover, SpaceX’s 8,285 BTC—valued at roughly $560 million—cements its position as the seventh-largest private Bitcoin holder.
As of October 25th, Bitcoin was trading at $67,576.65, showing a 1.02% increase over the past 24 hours. In contrast, Microsoft shares saw minimal movement, closing at $424.7 on October 24th with a slight uptick of 0.03%.
